Smoothie Dreamin’

14 Jul

So I made a smoothie for breakfast this morning, and I honestly haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. I don’t know what is was about that darn smoothie, but my God all I wanna do is make another. Is that so crazy?

Uh, you don’t have to answer that. Anyway, I was cravin’ something sweet and chocolate-y so I threw the following together… and out came:

Chocolate-Banana-Almond Smoothie

  • 2 pre-cut frozen bananas
  • 1 cup of Almond Milk (unsweetened)
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1.5 tbsp Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 packets Splenda
  • 1 tbsp Flax seed meal
  • 4 ice cubes

It was all sorts of deliciousness. Kind of reminded me of when you’re eating ice-cream and it starts to get a little soupy and drippy… which is my favorite part!

I had plans to go to my beach club with one of my girlfriends, Catherine, this afternoon… but before heading down I spent some quality girly time painting my nails with my momma and Champ (our pup!) in the backyard. I painted my nails the always gorgeous color “Whisper” by Essie, while my Mom went for the classic“Orgasm” by Nars. All you Nars fans out there, is it just me or is everything in their “Orgasm” line like ridiculously pretty? I’m a fan of the blush (obviously), the lip-gloss, and now the nail-polish! Oh, and I should mention my Mom and I are total nail-polish addicts. I rarely get manicures (which I guess is an awesome mulah-saver), because I grew up watching my Mom perpetually polish her perfect nails once a week and followed in her ways at a very young age. Luckily, I consider myself pretty skilled when it comes to the fine-art of nail and toe painting… but, mostly I just find it to be a relaxing diversion which offers me the reward of looking at my beautiful nails that I did all on my own!

Once my nails dried I picked up Catherine and we headed down to the beach. Even though I did the same thing on Monday, I opted to get in my cardio by doing a 60-minute power walk again today. It was definitely more enjoyable having a friend to chat with the entire way… made the time fly by! When our tummy’s started rumblin’ around 3pm I whipped out the light tuna salad I made earlier in the day and some multigrain tortilla chips by Food Should Taste Good. It was the perfect ocean-side snack! (Peep my nails in the pic of the tuna-salad atop the chip.)

Light-Style Light-Tuna Salad

  • 1 can light tuna fish
  • 1 tbsp light mayo
  • 1.5 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • few dashes of cayenne pepper, cumin, and garlic salt

If you guys haven’t checked it out yet, take a look at my Workout Diary I posted a few days ago in the fitness section of my blog. When I started rowing in high-school  I was always been diligent about keeping track of my workouts to ensure that I was doing my all to stay competitive on the team. Back then, it was important to remember all my workouts to make sure that each time I was improving my splits on the erg as well as increasing the amount I was lifting in the weight room. Even though I am not a competitive athlete any longer, that still doesn’t stop me from writing down all my exercise. Personally, I feel like it is rewarding to look back at my fitness diary and see all the hard work I’ve put in. I also think it is helpful to keep track of my workouts, so that I can keep things fresh and prevent myself from getting into any workout “ruts”!

What do you all think about keeping a workout diary/log/journal? Do you guys do it? And, if so,  how do you keep track?
